Prior to 0.19.19 and 1.0.0-beta.1, actix-web ConnectionInfo::realip_remote_addr reads the first value of X-Forwarded-For as the client address used by raw_ip_key in crates/utils/src/rate_limit/mod.rs. Lemmy's bundled docker/nginx.conf uses $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for instead of $remote_addr, which appends the real client address to an X-Forwarded-For value supplied by the client. An unauthenticated attacker can therefore place a different spoofed address first on each request and receive a new rate-limit bucket, bypassing limits on POST /api/v4/account/auth/register, POST /api/v4/account/auth/login, POST /api/v4/post, POST /api/v4/comment, GET /api/v4/search, POST /api/v4/image, and POST /api/v4/account/import_settings. This permits excessive account creation, brute-force attempts, spam, scraping, uploads, and repeated imports. This issue is fixed in versions 0.19.19 and 1.0.0-beta.1.Show less |

In versions 4.6.0 and above, prior to 4.14.5, a logic error in CheckRateLimitsMiddleware.dispatch() causes the /events endpoint rate check to unconditionally overwrite the general rate limit result. When the global max_request_per_minute is exceeded, requests to /events still succeed if the events-specific counter (hardcoded 30/min) has not been reached. This allows event injection into analysisd beyond the admin-configured global rate limit. This issue has been fixed in version 4.14.5.Show less |

Prior to 4.8.1, The Runtipi /api/auth/verify-totp endpoint does not enforce any rate limiting, attempt counting, or account lockout mechanism. An attacker who has obtained a user's valid credentials (via phishing, credential stuffing, or data breach) can brute-force the 6-digit TOTP code to completely bypass two-factor authentication. The TOTP verification session persists for 24 hours (default cache TTL), providing an excessive window during which the full 1,000,000-code keyspace (000000–999999) can be exhausted. At practical request rates (~500 req/s), the attack completes in approximately 33 minutes in the worst case. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.8.1.Show less |

Prior o 9.5.2-alpha.10 and 8.6.23, Parse Server's rate limiting middleware is applied at the Express middleware layer, but the batch request endpoint (/batch) processes sub-requests internally by routing them directly through the Promise router, bypassing Express middleware including rate limiting. An attacker can bundle multiple requests targeting a rate-limited endpoint into a single batch request to circumvent the configured rate limit. Any Parse Server deployment that relies on the built-in rate limiting feature is affected. This vulnerability is fixed in 9.5.2-alpha.10 and 8.6.23.Show less |
