Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection')

The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component.

Affected versions of Puppet Enterprise contain a command injection vulnerability. An authenticated user with Puppet administrative privileges can inject arbitrary shell commands by providing a specially crafted value for this parameter, which is passed to a shell execution context without sufficient sanitization. Because the resulting commands are executed with root privileges, successful exploitation can lead to full compromise of the affected system.  It affects Puppet Enterprise 2023.8.0 through 2023.8.10 and Puppet Enterprise 2025.0.0 through 2025.11.2. This has been resolved in Puppet Enterprise 2023.8.11 and Puppet Enterprise 2025.11.3.Show less

FileRun before 2026.3.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability caused by a no-op redefinition of escapeshellcmd() in CLI.php that strips shell-metacharacter escaping, allowing attacker-controlled input to reach an exec() sink unsanitized. Attackers can exploit this through an interactive path via image_preview.php with a crafted args parameter requiring superuser authentication, or through a persistent path by storing malicious payloads in thumbnails_ffmpeg_args or thumbnails_ffmpeg_ss that execute when any user triggers video thumbnail generation.Show less

FileRun before 2026.3.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in the PhotoProofSheet handler that allows authenticated users with upload permission to execute arbitrary commands by uploading files with shell metacharacters in their names. Attackers can upload a file containing command substitution syntax such as backticks, semicolons, or $() sequences in the filename, then trigger the PhotoProofSheet endpoint to execute arbitrary commands as the web-server user due to missing escapeshellarg() sanitization in the ImageMagick montage command construction.Show less

OS command injection in the advanced-rule parser of ConfigServer Security & Firewall allows a remote attacker who controls a configured allow/deny feed to execute arbitrary commands as root, due to insufficient validation of feed-supplied rule data. The vulnerability affects versions of the software originally distributed by ConfigServer, as well as versions of the WebPros-maintained fork that contain the vulnerable code. WebPros has addressed the vulnerability in version 16.30. Other forks or independently maintained versions of ConfigServer Security & Firewall (CSF) may also be affected and should be evaluated independently.Show less

Renovate is a dependency update automation tool. In versions before 44.14.7 (and in Mend Renovate CE/EE distributions before 15.4.0, and the mend-renovate-enterprise-edition Helm chart before 10.4.0), the manager/gradle-wrapper module does not escape the distributionUrl value read from a repository's gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties file before invoking the Gradle Wrapper CLI. In self-hosted deployments configured with binarySource=docker and allowedUnsafeExecutions=['gradleWrapper', ...], a repository that supplies a crafted distributionUrl (for example, appending a shell metacharacter and command) can cause arbitrary commands to be executed as the Renovate user when Renovate processes a Gradle Wrapper update. The issue is fixed in Renovate 44.14.7; as a workaround, remove 'gradleWrapper' from allowedUnsafeExecutions.Show less
