Insufficiently Protected Credentials

Crestron AM-100 with firmware 1.6.0.2 and AM-101 with firmware 2.7.0.2 stores usernames, passwords, and other configuration options in the file generated via the "export configuration" feature. The configuration file is encrypted using the awenc binary. The same binary can be used to decrypt any configuration file since all the encryption logic is hard coded. A local attacker can use this vulnerability to gain access to devices username and passwords.Show less

Platform dependent weakness. This issue only impacts iSeries platforms. On these platforms, in BIG-IP (LTM, AAM, AFM, Analytics, APM, ASM, DNS, Edge Gateway, FPS, GTM, Link Controller, PEM, WebAccelerator) versions 14.0.0-14.1.0.1, 13.0.0-13.1.1.3, and 12.1.1 HF2-12.1.4, the secureKeyCapable attribute was not set which causes secure vault to not use the F5 hardware support to store the unit key. Instead the unit key is stored in plaintext on disk as would be the case for Z100 systems. Additionally this causes the unit key to be stored in UCS files taken on these platforms.Show less

AVEVA Wonderware System Platform 2017 Update 2 and prior uses an ArchestrA network user account for authentication of system processes and inter-node communications. A user with low privileges could make use of an API to obtain the credentials for this account.Show less

When "set system ports console insecure" is enabled, root login is disallowed for Junos OS as expected. However, the root password can be changed using "set system root-authentication plain-text-password" on systems booted from an OAM (Operations, Administration, and Maintenance) volume, leading to a possible administrative bypass with physical access to the console. OAM volumes (e.g. flash drives) are typically instantiated as /dev/gpt/oam, or /oam for short. Password recovery, changing the root password from a console, should not have been allowed from an insecure console. A password management issue exists where the Organization authentication username and password were stored in plaintext in log files. A locally authenticated attacker who is able to access these stored plaintext credentials can use them to login to the Organization. Users with Site-level permissions can access files containing the username-encrypted passwords of Security Console Global Administrators and clear-text passwords for restoring backups, as well as the salt for those passwords. Valid credentials are required to access these files and malicious users would still need to perform additional work to decrypt the credentials and escalate privileges.
