Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization ('Race Condition')

The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently.

An attacker can make the Node.js HTTP/2 server completely unavailable by sending a small amount of HTTP/2 frames packets with a few HTTP/2 frames inside. It is possible to leave some data in nghttp2 memory after reset when headers with HTTP/2 CONTINUATION frame are sent to the server and then a TCP connection is abruptly closed by the client triggering the Http2Session destructor while header frames are still being processed (and stored in memory) causing a race condition.Show less

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vfio/pci: Lock external INTx masking ops Mask operations through config space changes to DisINTx may race INTx configuration changes via ioctl. Create wrappers that add locking for paths outside of the core interrupt code. In particular, irq_type is updated holding igate, therefore testing is_intx() requires holding igate. For example clearing DisINTx from config space can otherwise race changes of the interrupt configuration. This aligns interfaces which may trigger the INTx eventfd into two camps, one side serialized by igate and the other only enabled while INTx is configured. A subsequent patch introduces synchronization for the latter flows.Show less

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mptcp: really cope with fastopen race Fastopen and PM-trigger subflow shutdown can race, as reported by syzkaller. In my first attempt to close such race, I missed the fact that the subflow status can change again before the subflow_state_change callback is invoked. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: hv_netvsc: Fix race condition between netvsc_probe and netvsc_remove In commit ac5047671758 ("hv_netvsc: Disable NAPI before closing the VMBus channel"), napi_disable was getting called for all channels, including all subchannels without confirming if they are enabled or not. This caused hv_netvsc getting hung at napi_disable, when netvsc_probe() has finished running but nvdev->subchan_work has not started yet. netvsc_subchan_work() -> rndis_set_subchannel() has not created the sub-channels and because of that netvsc_sc_open() is not running. netvsc_remove() calls cancel_work_sync(&nvdev->subchan_work), for which netvsc_subchan_work did not run. netif_napi_add() sets the bit NAPI_STATE_SCHED because it ensures NAPI cannot be scheduled. Then netvsc_sc_open() -> napi_enable will clear the NAPIF_STATE_SCHED bit, so it can be scheduled. napi_disable() does the opposite. Now during netvsc_device_remove(), when napi_disable is called for those subchannels, napi_disable gets stuck on infinite msleep. This fix addresses this problem by ensuring that napi_disable() is not getting called for non-enabled NAPI struct. But netif_napi_del() is still necessary for these non-enabled NAPI struct for cleanup purpose. In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: blk-mq: fix IO hang from sbitmap wakeup race In blk_mq_mark_tag_wait(), __add_wait_queue() may be re-ordered with the following blk_mq_get_driver_tag() in case of getting driver tag failure. Then in __sbitmap_queue_wake_up(), waitqueue_active() may not observe the added waiter in blk_mq_mark_tag_wait() and wake up nothing, meantime blk_mq_mark_tag_wait() can't get driver tag successfully. This issue can be reproduced by running the following test in loop, and fio hang can be observed in < 30min when running it on my test VM in laptop. modprobe -r scsi_debug modprobe scsi_debug delay=0 dev_size_mb=4096 max_queue=1 host_max_queue=1 submit_queues=4 dev=`ls -d /sys/bus/pseudo/drivers/scsi_debug/adapter*/host*/target*/*/block/* | head -1 | xargs basename` fio --filename=/dev/"$dev" --direct=1 --rw=randrw --bs=4k --iodepth=1 \ --runtime=100 --numjobs=40 --time_based --name=test \ --ioengine=libaio Fix the issue by adding one explicit barrier in blk_mq_mark_tag_wait(), which is just fine in case of running out of tag.Show less

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: binder: fix race between mmput() and do_exit() Task A calls binder_update_page_range() to allocate and insert pages on a remote address space from Task B. For this, Task A pins the remote mm via mmget_not_zero() first. This can race with Task B do_exit() and the final mmput() refcount decrement will come from Task A. Task A | Task B ------------------+------------------ mmget_not_zero() | | do_exit() | exit_mm() | mmput() mmput() | exit_mmap() | remove_vma() | fput() | In this case, the work of ____fput() from Task B is queued up in Task A as TWA_RESUME. So in theory, Task A returns to userspace and the cleanup work gets executed. However, Task A instead sleep, waiting for a reply from Task B that never comes (it's dead). This means the binder_deferred_release() is blocked until an unrelated binder event forces Task A to go back to userspace. All the associated death notifications will also be delayed until then. In order to fix this use mmput_async() that will schedule the work in the corresponding mm->async_put_work WQ instead of Task A.Show less

vantage6 is an open source framework built to enable, manage and deploy privacy enhancing technologies like Federated Learning and Multi-Party Computation. Much like GHSA-45gq-q4xh-cp53, it is possible to find which usernames exist in vantage6 by calling the API routes `/recover/lost` and `/2fa/lost`. These routes send emails to users if they have lost their password or MFA token. This issue has been addressed in commit `aecfd6d0e` and is expected to ship in subsequent releases. Users are advised to upgrade as soon as a new release is available. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.Show less

Wings is the server control plane for Pterodactyl Panel. This vulnerability impacts anyone running the affected versions of Wings. The vulnerability can potentially be used to access files and directories on the host system. The full scope of impact is exactly unknown, but reading files outside of a server's base directory (sandbox root) is possible. In order to use this exploit, an attacker must have an existing "server" allocated and controlled by Wings. Details on the exploitation of this vulnerability are embargoed until March 27th, 2024 at 18:00 UTC. In order to mitigate this vulnerability, a full rewrite of the entire server filesystem was necessary. Because of this, the size of the patch is massive, however effort was made to reduce the amount of breaking changes. Users are advised to update to version 1.11.9. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.Show less

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: firmware: arm_scmi: Check mailbox/SMT channel for consistency On reception of a completion interrupt the shared memory area is accessed to retrieve the message header at first and then, if the message sequence number identifies a transaction which is still pending, the related payload is fetched too. When an SCMI command times out the channel ownership remains with the platform until eventually a late reply is received and, as a consequence, any further transmission attempt remains pending, waiting for the channel to be relinquished by the platform. Once that late reply is received the channel ownership is given back to the agent and any pending request is then allowed to proceed and overwrite the SMT area of the just delivered late reply; then the wait for the reply to the new request starts. It has been observed that the spurious IRQ related to the late reply can be wrongly associated with the freshly enqueued request: when that happens the SCMI stack in-flight lookup procedure is fooled by the fact that the message header now present in the SMT area is related to the new pending transaction, even though the real reply has still to arrive. This race-condition on the A2P channel can be detected by looking at the channel status bits: a genuine reply from the platform will have set the channel free bit before triggering the completion IRQ. Add a consistency check to validate such condition in the A2P ISR.Show less
